Huge new development underway in South Charlotte

The massive Rea Farms development at Providence Road is underway and construction is moving quickly. Currently in the works are hundreds of apartment units as well as a new gym, and the construction of more retail as well as senior living space are on deck.

The mixed-use complex is taking over a 190-acre lot that used to be home to a golf course, Rea Farms will feature the walkable environment that residents, guests and employers are looking for.

Life Time Fitness gym is halfway completed, and when it is done, it will be a 200,000 square-foot fitness center that will include an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, a salon and a health-focused café.

The apartment community that is underway will be called The Links at Rea Farms and will feature 455 garden-style units as well as rental town houses and apartments over ground-floor retail. The building is slated for completion in early 2018.

As far as shopping goes, a brand-new 76,000 square-foot Harris Teeter grocery store will be the anchor for the shopping center that is slated to begin construction this summer and will include a variety of other shops and restaurants.

The senior living community that will have 171 units for 55-and-older residents, which will be called Overture Providence, should be completed by the end of 2018.

Furthermore, the development will be home to 249 single-family houses and town homes, and the first model home will debut this Fall.
